CAD Designer


The CAD DESIGNER will primarily focus on new product development for Rennscot products. The CAD DESIGNER will, when necessary, assist in customer designs as well. The CAD DESIGNER will work closely with other members of the OPERATIONS department to deliver aesthetically pleasing, functional, and manufacturable designs.


  • R&D of new Rennscot products

    • Define and document functional requirements

    • Utilize supplier information, mesh data (laser scans), and other pre-existing 2D and 3D drawings to support CAD design

    • Create mechanical and electromechanical assemblies featuring a mix of custom manufactured and OTS (off the shelf) components

    • Create all supporting documentation which accompanies designs (technical drawings, bills of materials, etc.)

    • Collaborate with other members of operations department to verify design via prototypes, laser scans, etc.

    • Collaborate with other members of operations department to create product information/ planning documents (BOM’s, development costs, etc.)

  • Laser Scanning

    • Operation of Faro Design ScanArm (may require travel to customer facilities)

    • Post-processing of scan data in Geomagic Wrap

  • CAD design to support internal and external (customer) projects

  • Consistently improve one’s own knowledge and skills

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • BS in engineering, industrial design, or similar OR 4+ years of experience in role in engineering or industrial design

  • Ability to successfully collaborate and work within a team of interdisciplinary nature

  • Experience communicating with outside vendors

  • Experience working with Fusion 360 and/or Inventor

  • Familiarity with various manufacturing processes with an emphasis on machining

  • Basic understanding of static/dynamic loading

  • Basic understanding of material properties and material selection

  • Strong mechanical aptitude

Bonus Skills & Qualifications

  • Understanding of automotive component development and function

  • Experience designing components for automotive applications

  • Experience working with SolidWorks

  • Experience working with Geomagic Wrap or DesignX

  • Experience designing electromechanical assemblies

  • Basic experienced executing FEA (finite element analysis) studies for static loading scenarios
